10. French (229 Million Speakers)

This romance language has around 76 Million native speakers and 153 Million non-native speakers, French belongs to the Indo-European family and it’s the official language of 28 countries, the big number of speakers are from France, Canada (Quebec), Belgium and Switzerland, and it’s also spoken in different parts of Western and Central Africa like Coast ivory, Guinea, Cameroun, Senegal.. French it’s also found in few Caribbean islands like Martinique and Guadaloupe.

9. Portuguese (229 Million Speakers)

Another romance language and it’s related to French, Spanish, Romanian and Italian. The number of native speakers is 218 Million and 11 Million non-native speakers, Portuguese is the official language of Portugal, Brazil and also in few African countries as Cap Verde, Angola, Mozambique, and Guinea-Bissau.

8. Bengali (261 Million Speakers)

Bengali is an Indo-Aryan language with 242 Million native speakers and 19 Million non-native speakers, the Bengali language is considered as the official language in Bangladesh and it’s the second most spoken language in India, Bengali is written in the Bengali alphabet and it looks like this: বাংলা (Bangla).

Hindustani is the collective name for Hindi and Urdu, Two dialects of the same language despite the difference in vocabulary and pronunciation, still the speakers of both languages can communicate easily with each other, the number of native speakers is 329 million and non-native speakers are around 215 million, Hindi is the official language of the Indian government  and it’s widely spoken across northern and central of India, While Urdu is considered the official language of Pakistan.

Number 2 of this list is the language of this blog, the most spoken language in the world by non-native speakers (611 million speakers), English today is the international language (Lingua Franca). it has around 371 million native speakers and it’s the official language in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and many more. English is a West Germanic language and in term of vocabulary and sentence structure it’s the closest language to German and Dutch, However, many of its vocabulary is a Latin origin.
